English Language Arts

Term 1 ELA

Over term 1 in English Language Arts we will be exploring the following content:

Writing/Oral: Throughout the term, we will be looking at how to revise our work and and expand our ideas. Students will work on developing sounds to spell and write with more accuracy for the targeted grade level, with a focus on explicit rules and patterns. We will look at creating meaning through creative writing with our lens being poetry. We will explore sentence structure, compound sentences, with a focus on expressing complete thoughts.

Grammar: We will be exploring English versus French sounds through games and word-making activities. We will also be looking at how to make complete sentences, "juicy" sentences (with a focus on nouns and adjectives.

Reading: Strategies for improved reading comprehension (this will be throughout the year)
