French Term 2

Over term 2 in French Language Arts we will be exploring the following notions:

Writing: In line with our English Language programme, students will further their writing by focusing on organizing ideas into topic sentences, using supporting details, and paragraph formatting. Students will be encouraged to work on expanding their ideas in writing by explaining "why" or "how".

Grammar: Again, in line with the English Language Arts programme, we will be exploring English versus French sounds through games and word-making activities. Our focus for this term will be verbs and how to conjugate them in various tenses under study. Students will continue to build on notions previous learned to further their written expression. These are the verbs (from all three groups) that we will be working on:

- er verbs (manger, entrer)

- ir verbs (finir, partir)

- re verbs (descendre, vendre)

- Aller

- Faire

- Devoir

- Vouloir

- Pouvoir

Reading: This terms focus will be on reading comprehension. How do you know what you have read? In small groups, students will take turns reading and asking each other questions about ideas or concepts contained with in the reading. This will help further our "Club de français" home reading programme to support at-home learning. Students will be given a digital dictionary to track new words which will be verified regularly. As students encounter new words, they will be expected to update their dictionary.

Oral: we will be practicing oral language through in-class peer communications at Free Time, skits and reader's theatre.
